Foundation (Prep) News
Mandela Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. People are encouraged to take 67 minutes of their day to fight for social justice. This year, on 22 July, our St Peters Prep Community, which included our parents, children, teachers, interns and maintenance staff, decided to embark on a project to upgrade our outreach school, Sefikeng Primary School. Our community volunteered 2 hours of their time and donated money and goods that were needed for this project. Some of our projects included painting fences and jungle gyms, cleaning classrooms and classroom equipment, gardening and creating a welcoming staffroom.
Madiba’s spirit was alive on Saturday, when over 250 St Peter’s families and staff joined their Sefikeng counterparts to give their 67 minutes.
The overwhelming sense of community that prevailed was palpable - passion, care and enthusiasm abounded.
A magical evening was held recently, to celebrate the successes of our BigFutures, Social Responsibility projects. The donors and volunteers, who support this initiative in various ways, were honoured at an Evensong and subsequent Cocktail Party, hosted by the St Peter’s Foundation.
VISION: Growing servant leaders within our St Peter’s family to uplift our community for their big futures.
In order to create a more sustainable and meaningful impact within our community, St Peter’s Boys Prep and Girls Prep have chosen Sefikeng Primary as our partner school. We will concentrate all our time, effort and resources on their Foundation Phase. Each St Peter’s child and our staff will have an opportunity to make a contribution in some way. We would like to invite you to volunteer too, as we make a difference together!
On Tuesday evening 12 September, the Foundation hosted My Father’s Coat as a fundraiser for the Isematholeni Intern programme. The St Peter’s community gathered at St Peter’s College MADDitorium to listen to Michael Charton, founder of Inherit South Africa in Cape Town, tell a story.
This story, although heard many times, was unlike other stories about our country’s history - in the way it was told.
Welcome to our 2017 interns!
2016 saw 15 interns registered with UNISA in various years of study.
St Peter’s welcomes the new, 2016 group of interns.
St Peter’s Prep Schools held a civvies day today and collected still water for charity as payment for wearing civvies. Hundreds of bottles were donated and were collected this morning by H2O 4 Hooves and Heels.
