Girls Prep: places available for 2019, Grade 0 and Grade 5

Parents' Association

The St Peter’s Parents’ Association (PA) comprises the entire parent body of both the Boys and Girls Prep Schools, and is represented by a committee of volunteer parents elected annually. The PA Committee’s aim is to build our parent community and provide positive support to the Schools through the fun and funds we raise and the projects we initiate, and we encourage all parents and families to participate.

Typical examples of some of the “Fun”raising social events organised by event subcommittees of the PA include the hugely popular Movie Night, the Staff Variety Show which showcases the talents of our incredible staff, the Ladies’ Lunch and the annual Golf Day. Participation by all is actively encouraged.
On the sporting front, we organise the St Peter’s Family Soccer Fun Day, which involves children and parents from both schools in an afternoon of friendly soccer matches and socialising.

Other initiatives of the PA include the MySchool and Makro card reward programmes, a weekly St Peter’s classified advertisement leaflet, hotdog days, leaver’s plaques and of course the School Shop.

A very important part of the PA is the Communication Committee (the CC). Each of the schools has its own CC. The main role of the CC is to manage and co-ordinate the class reps who play the crucial role of liaison between the parents of their class and the teacher/the School. Class reps recruit volunteers for various School and PA events, provide TLC for children or parents who are dealing with a major event, arrange social gatherings in their class or grade and generally facilitate the social involvement of the parent body for which St Peter’s is renowned.

The PA has, over the years, been responsible for many additions to the School campus, which include:

  • The Keys and Mvukuzane pavilions
  • The School Shop
  • Cricket nets
  • Seating and shading around both swimming pools and various sports fields
  • Royce Hall Kitchen
  • Sound and equipment in Royce Hall
  • Chapel screens
  • Golf carts for use by sports and catering staff across the campus
  • Traffic lights on Witkoppen Rd
  • Agility wall and slide at the Boys Junior Prep
  • Treehouse and slide at the girls Junior Prep
  • 50% of both multi-purpose sports facilities

The PA also sponsors the sports teas for parents and refreshments for the players at all inter-house and inter-school fixtures which are hosted at the Schools, as well as the catering for most parent functions, using PA levies and other monies raised.

The St Peter’s PA is very aware of the need to transform our Schools and to encourage interaction between all parents of the School. To facilitate this we have a Transformation Committee that strives to foster transformation and integration at all levels in the School — sport, cultural activities and PA events. Their current initiative centres around ‘My South African Story’ — evenings hosted by the committee where parents are encouraged to talk about their journey in order to foster greater understanding within the community.

The PA Committee is very mindful of giving back to the community, and the PA donates up to 15% of its annual surplus to the Schools’ Community Partnership Programmes with Diepsloot Combined and Sefikeng Schools, and more recently has made meaningful donations to the Schools’ Intern Programme — ‘Inkunzi Isematholeni’.

New members of the PA Committee are elected at the PA AGM, traditionally held in the first term. Parents interested in joining the PA Committee or becoming involved as a Class Representative or assisting in some way on one of the “Fun”raising or event sub-committees should contact the Secretary or Chairperson, via the school office.
