‘TOUR DE MATHS’ AT ST PETER’S GIRLS PREP

St Peter’s Girls Prep hosted the third and final Tour de Maths event for 2019. Tour de Maths is an Inter-school Mathematics Competition, which focuses on collaboration and problem solving, while having lots of fun.

SHARING A LOVE OF READING DURING ‘BOOK WEEK’

The Girls School Book Week began on Monday, 18 February!

This week-long event is an annual celebration of books, which have been written for young people. The objective is to inspire a love of reading.

A variety of activities were planned - to promote the joy of reading.

Thinking Skills South Africa (TSSA) held a conference hosted by St Peter’s Prep School, welcoming James Nottingham, author and entrepreneur who encourages deeper thinking through his Learning Pit model.

Mr Simon Henderson, the current Head Master of Eton College (Eton, Berkshire, England), spent time as a gap year student, at St Peter’s Prep. This was years back when the current Rector of St Peter’s Prep, Greg Royce, began his tenure as Headmaster of the Boys School.

At ISASA’s request, Simon Sean Henderson was approached - asking him to deliver a keynote address at the ISASA and Independent Schools Heads’ Conference, which took place over the half-term last week.

ST PETER’S GIRLS PREP PUPIL WINS BRONZE AT THE ESKOM INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FAIR

Almaaz Mudaly flew the St Peter’s Girls Prep School flag high recently when she participated in the International Science Fair in October. She won a bronze medal in the innovation and technology category.

Almaaz, a Grade 6 pupil, was one of the youngest students at the Science Fair. She competed against pupils up to Grade 12. Almaaz was selected for the Science Fair, having submitted work of an exceptional standard.

CONGRATULATIONS TO 'OLD GIRL', MEG PARKER!

St Peter’s Girls Prep, ‘Old Girl’, Megan Parker (currently at school at St. Anne’s Diocesan College in KZN), has reached round three of the Junior Mathematics Olympiad.

This places her in the top 100 Mathematicians, in Grade 8/9, in the country.

MANDELA DAY: 'BOOK, BALL AND BISCUITS' FOR SEFIKENG SCHOOL

On Wednesday, 25 July, the St Peter’s Girls JP community brought 67 minutes of happiness and many more hours of fun and reading to the children of Sefikeng School.  Over 450 packs consisting of a book, ball and biscuits were sponsored by the very generous girls and their families.  This means that every child from Grade 0 - 7 received an age-appropriate book to take home.  On the morning, many of the parents and girls then went to the school and interacted with the children.

THE JUNIOR PREP’S ‘DAY OF EXPLORATION’

The St Peter’s JP Department held a ‘Day of Exploration’ on Thursday, 29 March.

This awareness that play matters, is not new. However, with the increasing pressure on schools to educate for a growing technological and ever-changing world, as well as the need to develop 21st Century skills, the concept of play has been seen as a luxury that children don’t have time for. Play’s positive contribution to learning is not a new realisation, but at St Peter’s we have become increasingly aware of the impact of play on learning. 

2018 ‘KEYS CAMP’ AT THE WATERBERG GAME LODGE

Last year we introduced the ‘Keys Camp’, as part of our new Leadership Programme at St Peter’s Girls Prep.  The camp is scheduled to take place early in the year, in order to allow the Grade 7s an opportunity to create strong bonds amongst themselves and their teachers. This is also a time in which to set out clear expectations for the final year of prep school and prepare the girls for high school.

KIDS LIT QUIZ

The regional heat of the annual Kids Lit Quiz took place on Monday, 12 February 2018. The Kids Lit Quiz is an international competition, focusing on building a love of literature and reading amongst its participants. Students really look forward to this event, and challenge themselves to read widely from various genres and authors, in preparation for this fun and exciting day.
