The enormous effect of environment on intelligence in the early years is one of the main drivers for the opening of our own St Peter’s Pre-Prep. Early Childhood Development (ECD) encompasses physical, socio-emotional, cognitive and motor development between 0 to 8 years of age.
On Tuesday 2 April, the Grade 0 boys had a great surprise, the long awaited incubator filled with eggs had arrived. The eggs were carefully numbered and left to incubate over the next two days.
A magical evening was held recently, to celebrate the successes of our BigFutures, Social Responsibility projects. The donors and volunteers, who support this initiative in various ways, were honoured at an Evensong and subsequent Cocktail Party, hosted by the St Peter’s Foundation.
It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect for a fun filled morning of cricket. The Grade 1s and their dads played in the first round of matches and thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of ‘competitive sport’. It was evident to see the excitement and nerves amongst not only the boys, but the dads as well, as they demonstrated their cricketing skills/abilities whilst being cheered on from the side by moms, grandparents, brothers and sisters. There were some eagerly contested matches and the boys and their dads seemed to really enjoy the experience.
St Peter’s Prep Schools, through the Transformation arm of the Parents Association, hosted another successful “My Story” evening with over 80 parents and staff in attendance. This time a special guest was invited; Roy Gluckman, a diversity and inclusion specialist.

In order to create a more sustainable and meaningful impact within our community, St Peter’s Boys Prep and Girls Prep have chosen Sefikeng Primary as our partner school. We will concentrate all our time, effort and resources on their Foundation Phase. Each St Peter’s child and our staff will have an opportunity to make a contribution in some way. We would like to invite you to volunteer too, as we make a difference together!

In order to support our own health and that of our children, we invited Ela Manga to talk St Peter’s Prep staff and parents about a way of managing our stress and that of our children. As she says: Dysfunctional breathing habits develop over time due to chronic stress, poor posture or past trauma. These unconscious habits, in turn, exacerbate the stress response and push tension even deeper into the body.
From 01 to 05 October the boys enjoyed their final FLP for 2018. These Flexible Learning Programmes just keep getting better and better! It is amazing what the boys learnt and the quality of their presentations is proof in itself. Here are the highlights of what the boys from Grade 4 to 7 were challenged with in the week:
I.C.E stands for Inquiry, Creativity and Experimenting. We decided on this name, as these are vital 21st Century skills for the boys to be exposed to and inquiry forms a big part of the curriculum. Incorporating the I.C.E programme at St Peter’s allows boys to be exposed to new experiences and possible hobbies that they might never have considered.
On Wednesday, 25 July, the St Peter’s Girls JP community brought 67 minutes of happiness and many more hours of fun and reading to the children of Sefikeng School. Over 450 packs consisting of a book, ball and biscuits were sponsored by the very generous girls and their families. This means that every child from Grade 0 - 7 received an age-appropriate book to take home. On the morning, many of the parents and girls then went to the school and interacted with the children.
