Sports

Sport has great educational value in that it not only promotes physical fitness, but also encourages teamwork and the development of self control, co-operation, loyalty, determination and leadership.
Sport at St Peter’s emphasizes participation, skills development, healthy competition, fair play and good sportsmanship.
Participation in sport is encouraged and at certain times on the timetable, is compulsory. Detailed afternoon programmes are issued at each change of season and the requirements in terms of participation, dress codes and equipment is stipulated.
Grade 4 sport takes place before 15h00 in the afternoon and Grade 5 and 6 sport will finish by 16h00.
Interschool fixtures take place on a Thursday and Friday afternoon. These fixtures are printed in the weekly newsletter and displayed on the sport notice boards at the school.
Children are encouraged to keep a sense of proportion regarding sport. They practise hard and play hard, but always play for enjoyment. They accept the referee’s decision without question and are made familiar with the rules of the game.
Once a child has signed up for a sport, she is fully committed for the duration of the season.
Parents are asked to support the code that the children follow. Coaching from the side of the field is not allowed nor is criticism of the umpire, as it unsettles the players.
