Music

Music is considered to be a vital part of the curriculum and its study unequivocally enhances academic performance.

The following instrumental lessons are currently on offer:

Piano                      Cello               Saxophone               Violin             Recorder       Percussion

Flute                Drum kit          Voice               Clarinet         Oboe              Classical Guitar

The majority of the above lessons take place during the morning. Some lessons are scheduled in the afternoon, depending on the availability of the teachers and the extramural timetable. An application form must be completed at reception and new pupils will be allocated a music teacher.

St Peter’s offers Music Theory lessons as an extramural activity to any girl (Grade 3 – 6), who studies a musical instrument or who wishes to study Music Theory only. Currently, we offer classes in Grade 1 and 2 Royal Schools of Music Theory.

During music appreciation classes the girls study note names and values, time signatures, clapping of rhythms, notation, basic composition, aural training, music management and a basic history of music.

An orchestra caters for all orchestral instruments and encourages ensemble playing. This is a wonderful opportunity to play with fellow musicians. Any girl is welcome to join if she has had a year’s lessons in an individual instrument. The orchestra rehearses every week.

The Marimba group learn to read rhythms and follow a melodic line.

St Peter's has three choirs: the Junior Prep, the Cadet and the Chapel Choir. The Chapel Choir plays a vital role in the school chapel, leading the worship. Each year, the Chapel Choir participates in various music concerts, carol services and choir festivals.
